IBPA Publishing University 2014 – March 21-22, 2014 in San Francisco

By: Ebonye Gussine Wilkins

Hello Readers!

Yesterday I attended Publishing University 2014, which was put together by the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA). August Rose Press is a member of the IBPA, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about what I learned at this conference.

I met many amazing people with amazing stories and experiences to tell. I met with publishers, distributors and other experts in the industry. I learned from people who have been working in publishing for five years, and people who have been working in publishing for thirty years. It was a thrilling experience.

Granted, I didn’t have a lot of time in between sessions, but I enjoyed myself. It was so difficult to choose which sessions to attend because there were so many good ones in each time block. From Niche Marketing to Why DIY Trumps Traditional, it was an experience I won’t forget. I look forward to attending next year’s conference.

With everything I’ve learned, I will in turn teach others on the August Rose Press staff so that we can better serve you, the writers.

If you’d like to read about some of what I have learned during the conference, I will be posting a multi-part series over the course of the next week to share some of the tips that I know will help other writers. After all, that is what this blog is all about.

If you want to know what others said about the conference, use the hashtag #PubU2014 and see what was trending on Twitter and Facebook.

Happy Reading, Writing, and Re-Writing!
