One Way to Get Multiple Book Cover Designs to Choose From

By: Ebonye Gussine Wilkins

Recently, I saw the cover for a not-yet-published book that made me scratch by head. The cover design itself was beautiful (good job to the graphic artist), but the choice of words written on the cover gave me pause (why will be mentioned in a future post). The importance of choosing a great cover design for your book is explained here.

It made me wonder where people are getting their book designs from? Who are the people designing these covers? Is there additional input as to what is standard and what makes sense? If so, where is this advice coming from?

While an author (especially an indie author) should have creative control over a book cover, it is important to observe and study elements of great book covers. What makes you pick up one book over another? First-time authors normally do not have name-recognition, so a lot of it relies on what the cover looks like. Fact of the matter is, books are judged by their covers.

I stumbled upon this website today, and I thought I would share it with you all. If you use the service and decide you like it, please let us know! I recently heard about it, so I cannot offer it as a recommendation. However, check out the site and see for yourself. If you do not find it useful, pass it along. Perhaps another author might find it useful.
