What Are Your Writing and Publishing Goals for 2015?
By: Ebonye Gussine Wilkins
Happy New Year Everyone! (Are you tired of hearing that yet?)
It’s a whole new year for writing, reading and publishing. Here at August Rose Press, we’re working on a number of goals that include bringing you more original content, with lots of tips on how to make publishing easier for you.
As for me, I’ve got an aggressive list of to-dos for this year, so it’s going to be a busy year. As you know, I already maintain the August Rose Press website, and this blog. I’ve also put a lot of work into my new author website, which will also be updated regularly (yet another blog to maintain!). It’s going to be a busy year with Bobbing and Weaving coming out in June, and my next novel Lessons from John coming out in one year.

In order to meet all my goals for this year, I’ve created an accountability notebook to help me stay on track. I’ve tagged articles that I want to look into, blog posts I’d like to write, articles that I need to work on, and other strategies and benchmarks to help me make the most of this year. It’s just a plain notebook, not a fancy app, but I think it will work well. It might even help me unplug, because it is so easy to get distracted from writing with technology these days.
I think bringing everything back to basics will be key to sticking to my goals. It’s so easy to get sidetracked with funny memes and click-bait articles that show up in your Facebook Newsfeed. But hey, with so many things demanding our attention these days, it’s hard to block out the noise—but it is possible. Set three or four big goals for yourself, and a few smaller ones and make a plan to get to them. You might surprise yourself with how much you can get done.
What are your writing goals for 2015? Are you planning on publishing something this year? Are you on track for meeting your deadlines? Let us know about it in the comments!
